Why Support

Ticket income pays for only 35% of the costs of operating the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra. Therefore, the CRSO can only remain as strong as the community that supports it.

FAQs

If I make a gift to the CRSO's Annual Fund, where does the money go?
Your money goes to support the operating budget of the Cedar Rapids Symphony, including concerts, educational and outreach programming, the Symphony School and salaries and administrative costs.

Is my gift to the CRSO tax deductible?
The Cedar Rapids Symphony is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, which means the entire amount of your gift is tax deductible. We send each donor a letter of receipt for use in tax preparation.

What do I get in return for my gift?
We know how important tax-deductibility is to our patrons, so we have chosen not to give expensive premiums, which reduce the tax-deductible portion of your gift. (The IRS does not allow the deduction of the fair market value of any premiums you receive.) What you do receive - in addition to the CRSO's sincere appreciation - is a listing in our program book (for all gifts $50 and above), invitations to select open rehearsals and special events, and a subscription to the CRSO's email newsletter.

What is a matching gift program?
Some companies match their employees' charitable gifts, providing the CRSO significant additional funding through the completion of a simple form. If you or your spouse is an employee, director or retiree, contact your company's personnel office to inquire about the existence of a matching gift program. If your company matches gifts, the company name will be listed in the Corporate Honor Roll. In addition, you will have the opportunity to move to a higher category in the CRSO giving levels, as we also add the match of your company to your gift.

Local companies with matching gift programs:
  • ADM Foundation
  • PepsiCo Foundation
  • Alliant Energy
  • Rockwell Collins
  • IBM Corporation
  • Ryan Companies Foundation
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Square D Foundation
  • MidAmerican Energy
  • U.S. Bancorp Foundation
Don't see your company? Call the CRSO Development office or your company's personnel office to see if it participates.

I'm starting to make plans for my estate. How can I include the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra?
The Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra established the Cedar Rapids Symphony Foundation in 1990. The Cedar Rapids Symphony Foundation holds the mission to "provide economic stability, growth and contingency funding to the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra through the development, management and disbursement of the endowment funds of the Foundation," or more simply stated, to ensure the future of the Cedar Rapids Symphony for generations to come.
