Individual Instruction

Traditional Lessons

In Traditional Lessons, students receive individualized instruction from an experienced professional music educator. Many of our instructors are CRSO musicians. Others are current or retired area music educators or area college and university professors.

Traditional Lessons are available for all ages. Most instructors enjoy teaching adults and youth alike. Lessons are typically held once a week, either for 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on instructor recommendation, student/parent preference and skill level.

Because curriculum is individualized for each student, it is possible for anyone to enjoy the benefits of traditional lessons at the CRSS, whether working to prepare for an All-State or college audition, or simply wishing to play to increase one's quality of life.

The CRSS welcomes and encourages students of all ages to participate in Traditional Lessons! Traditional instruction is currently available on the following instruments: Flute, Violin, Clarinet, Viola, Harp, Cello, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Double Bass, Voice, Horn. Suzuki Program

Every child can learn to play a musical instrument well if given the opportunity. If musical instruction is begun at an early age, a child has great potential to learn the language of music and all of the skills that are developed while learning an instrument.

The Suzuki Method is largely successful because of parent involvement in lessons and at-home practice. Parents are not required to have a musical background, as Suzuki teachers are trained in parent education and there are many opportunities for parents to meet with teachers and families. The CRSS Suzuki program is a community in which you and your child can work together as a team to learn skills that your child will use and cherish for the rest of his or her life.

The basic principles of the Suzuki Method consist of:
  • Listening
  • Motivation
  • Proper technique
  • Repetition
  • Reinforcement
In the CRSS Suzuki program, your child will have the opportunity to perform in recitals and special outreach events, individually and in a group setting including performances at the CRSO Holiday Pops concerts as well as several other appearances throughout the year.

Each child receives a weekly individual lesson with an experienced Suzuki instructor. A weekly group lesson also is included in Suzuki tuition. Group classes reinforce technical skills, music theory, leadership skills and artistry development (not to mention they are a lot of fun!)

Suzuki instruction is offered for violin, viola, piano and harp. The CRSS Suzuki Coordinator places families with teachers. Please let the coordinator know if you have a teacher preference. See Complete Instructor Listings
